Academic Magnet High School Reviews

As a former student, this is a really great school to be at. At the time I may have thought differently (*smiles*) , but I actually miss the great atmoshere. You'll make friends real easy and not just with your graduating class. Teachers are great and willing to help in any way they can. Sports and numerous clubs are also great and look real good to colleges/unviersities. I completely recommend the Magnet, as long as you're willing to commit to the work. This is defintely not a school for slackers. Go Raptors!!!! Jenn(ifer) Bell, Graduate of 2006

As a graduate and four year survivor of the Magnet, I enjoyed every single moment spent there and miss it dearly. One forms personal relationships with the teachers and staff, which results in a richer learning environment. I had a wonderful experience at AMHS, and it is a fantastic school.

This school is amazing. The community is small; it feels like family. You can always find support here. The best part is the challenge of working in this kind of environment. Every day you learn new things. We work much harder than the other schools in the area, and study on a much higher level. Students come back and say that after Magnet, college is a breeze.

We are quite blessed that our daughter attends AMHS. She is challenged daily both personally and professionally. Educators having a genuine interest in the students education is rare in this day in age, and it is exemplified by the students who attend. Educators should and can only do so much. Parental involvement is paramount and the lack of it is obvious with crime and poor academics.

Our daughter is just finishing her first year at the Academic Magnet. By far, this is the best school we have seen and we looked at several (including a local exclusive private where she attended for several years)before choosing the Magnet. What I find at the Magnet that really catches my eye is that I have never seen teachers that are so happy to teach! During this year's parent teacher conference, we had three teachers tell us that they would 'have to be dragged out of this school' before they would leave, this is the best teaching job. All of these teachers were wonderful, challenging, and innovative, and clearly, their attitudes reflect in the attitudes and achievement that our daughter exhibits. I would characterize the workload at the Magnet as just right, challenging, relevant and interesting. An absolutely stellar school!

As a student of Academic Magnet High School I would like to say that it is a wonderful school. The teachers and falculty are very helpful. The school offers 20 Advanced placement and all honors programs. There are so many extracurricular activities to choose from ranging from tennis to swimming to sailing. The students are caring and supportive of eachother. When I first started I made millions of friends instantly including ones from other grades. I have never heard anyone be put down by another student either. The best part of the school is that the setting is very comfortable. Another important part of the school is that everyone wants to learn so classes are not inturupted ever. My sugestion about coming to the school is that you should want to come. If you want to get the best education possible then the Magnet is deffinatly a place you want to be. Peggy, Freshman

I as an alumni from AMHS feel that there is no comparison of this school to the governors school. AMHS is heads above the governors school in the respect that AMHS gives great extracurricular latitude that most any other magnet school doesnt. In addition, the senior thesis program is much more rigorous and complete than that of the SC governors school. The sports programs at AMHS are also on the rise with boys and girls soccer as well as baseball, softball and many other spring and fall sports.

The best school ever! With the exception of 1 or 2 teachers, which comes with all schools, this school is academically the best in the state at least. 20 AP classes, motivated and funny and diverse student body, great teachers, everything here is great! There are so many extracurricular activities, and although the sports program isn't the best ever, you can be on any sports team you want! I love it and hope I never leave! There are so many things to get involved with and people to meet! If you're smart and want to prepare for an awesome college, GO HERE!

As a student at the Magnet, I know that I will receive the best education I can get, make long lasting connections, and become a communtiy-involved person. The teachers there are extremely well qualified, fun, and possess a passion for their subject area. Regardless of comparisons, Academic Magnet IS in the top ranked schools in the nation.

As a graduate of the Academic Magnet, I believe that the magnet provides adequate preparation for college. However, I believe the comparison to the Governor's School in Hartsville is ridiculous. I believe that a motivated student attending Wando or James Island can attain a similar or superior education.

With the exception of maybe 2 teachers, the Academic Magnet High School is amazing(academically). Unfortunately we are cursed with an authoritarian principal who is 'transferring' 3 of our best teachers(who she coincidently doesn't get along with). But this school by far has the best academic program in the lowcountry and second best in the state(next to some boarding school for juniors and seniors that gets half their students from our school).
