Mason Preparatory School Reviews

Our child has enjoyed this school for the last 3 years. The shool is challenging and offers study's one year in advance of the grade. The staff and teachers are very involved with the children and parents. This is school is for those students that take learning seriously.

We were in the public school system until this year, when my son started Mason Prep as a 3rd Grader. I was shocked to read about the parents who felt that the 'Teachers were extremely uptight with little caring attitude shown to students' This is the exact opposite of my experience. The teachers have communicated with us via e-mail or phone at least twice weekly, we had a 1 hour conference with both teachers to help us adapt to our son's learning style, and everyone has been very positive and helpful. The enviroment is nuturing and supportive and my son has thrived here. We are involved parents and that may help beacuse they know we want the best education for our son. We couldn't be more pleased.

Mason is for serious students with a superior family support. Mason EXPECTS this. Parents can be treated shabbily by other Mason parents who are not available for PTA and volunteering during the day (being a scientist isn t conducive to that, so I was shunned at first). Mason Prep 3rd graders use 4th grade textbooks (and they are labeled as such), so it is a deliberately advanced curriculum. The small school allows for every child to be known by all faculty. The location is great for MUSC faculty, who are 2 blocks away. I recommend Mason if your child is very self-motivated, extremely self-disciplined, and highly independent from the first grade (less than that makes for a painful experience).

Certainly not a school for everyone. My child was miserable at this school during 1st and 2nd grades. Teachers were extremely uptight with little caring attitude shown to students. My child forgot to 'love learning.' Asking questions in class was not welcomed. Grading not objective.

This is a wonderful school. My kids have thrived here. Everyone knows you by name and sincerely care about your kids.
